Love. Love. Love. The food, drinks, and vibe are all on point. The margaritas are overly sweet and premixed. Not my jam. But the Paloma was delish, as were the tacos and Cochilico Burrito. Music and esthetic give the place an authentic feel. Can't wait to come back for a chill date night or a catch up with friends.

Best Mexican spot in Richmond! Birria and the Gypsy quesadilla were out of this world. The elote was also scrumptious. My boyfriend and I found our go to place for when we’re craving Mexican food. SO good!!

Don’t sleep on this new taco spot! Was worried it would be a big chain but it’s local and authentic. Massive stuffed tacos with interesting fillings. SO good. Made the mistake of ordering 4 and could only finish half. Will definitely be back to el mero mero.

In Richmond last weekend for my wife’s birthday. She had to work on Friday so I decided to lounge around and explore Scott’s Addition and the surrounding area. She recommended this place after one of her client’s introduced her to it while she was in town a few weeks ago. I walked over from the hotel and got there within 10 minutes of them opening and there was already a small line and several other people that had already ordered. Good sign #1. Immediately when you walk in you notice a bar setup to your left, made out of an old shipping container but painted vibrantly. The bartender was very friendly, as most people in Richmond seem to be, and welcomed me in immediately. You order your food further towards the back of the restaurant and pick from several types of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Let me get this out of the way….this place is expensive. To me, 2 tacos for $10+ is pretty insane. If you get three tacos the price drops to about $4 a taco which is still a bit of a stretch IMO. I ordered two of their tacos especiales (1 Cochiloco taco and 1 Sonora taco). The Cochiloco taco has adobada pork (al pastor), cheese, grilled pineapple, guacamole, cilantro and onions while the Sonora taco came with carne asada, cheese, roasted Anaheim peppers, beans, guacamole, cilantro and onions. Sounds great. The only problem was that I didn’t realize that all of those things came ON the taco. I incorrectly assumed that the guac and beans would be on the side which is definitely not my preference. These tacos were stuffed to the brim and somewhat hard to eat. Flavor-wise, each was very good though I surprisingly preferred the Sonora (carne asada)…I’m typically al pastor all day. After the tortillas collapsed over the sheer girth of these tacos I ended up finishing them off with a fork. A cardinal sin, I know, but I had to do what I had to do. For $13, I wasn’t wasting these bad boys. Cochiloco has a self-serve salsa bar that had 4 or 5 different offerings. I tried the habanero salsa, the pico de gallo, and the salsa matcha. The habanero was the best to me because I love some heat. The pico was great and added a nice pop of freshness that those thicc tacos needed. The salsa matcha was like just about every other salsa matcha I’ve tried. Oily and earthy and the heat doesn’t resonate with me. I think I just don’t understand it. Overall, even though my review may sound critical, I would definitely go back here. I think I should have stayed in my normal wheelhouse and stuck with the traditional tacos over the tacos especiales and probably would have loved it. Next time you’re in Scott’s Addition, be sure to check out Cochiloco! If you’re a taco purist like me and prefer more simple tacos, I’d recommend avoiding the espeicales and sticking with the O.G.’s.

Chochiloco is a solid late-night spot for authentic, no-frills Mexican food that really hits the spot. The food is flavorful and served up quickly, making it perfect for a late-night craving. One of the highlights is their salsa bar, which lets you customize your meal with fresh and spicy options. They also have Mexican Cokes, which is always a plus. The vibe is energetic and welcoming, though the folding plastic chairs aren’t the most comfortable if you’re planning to hang out for a while. Still, the great food and atmosphere make up for it. Definitely worth checking out!

Man, the tacos were DELICIOUS!! Amazing, and I haven't had anything like them in RVA. Do not sleep in the elotes, either. So good. Drinks were also . That being said, the place is chaotic. Just lots of people milling around and sitting wherever and there's the whole thing where everyone is staring down every table hoping they'll leave soon so they can take the seats. If there's a line to order food, don't worry --they move FAST.

Tasty Mexican food! Slow service, but that seems to be because they actually prepare the food after you order it, it’s not premade like at many Mexican restaurants. Nice indoor and outdoor seating areas.

The food was delicious and the portions were very generous! I especially loved the Elote! I also appreciated the condiment bar where I could try a variety of sauces with my meal. We went on a Saturday night so understandably it was packed and seating was limited. As you order at the window and seat yourself you kind of have to keep an eye for a table. The music was very loud so it was difficult to hang out and have a conversation with the people we came with but overall it was still really delicious. I think I might consider it for a carry out in the future if it’s so busy because the food shouldn’t be missed!
